Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can expect learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
